WED On-line Application Privacy & User Protections Policy Statement
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY: This is a policy statement from Watson Education/CRI (WED) describing various privacy and user protection laws, and conditions related to services we provide you (USER). If you have questions about any of these statements, please contact WED.
CIPA, the Children's Internet Protection Act (2000), requires schools and libraries receiving certain types of federal funding to block Internet access to "visual depictions" of material that is obscene, child pornography, and when minors are using the computer, material that is harmful to minors.
WED staff and contractors pledge to monitor content on our web site and on-line services and ensure they meet the requirements of CIPA.
Special features to protect the personal information of minors.
a. Two features within our system may be used by minors, but only as test-takers or survey responders: our student testing module and general survey module. Both of these systems may be set up so that student access is anonymous or via non-personally-identifiable means (for instance, instead of logging in with a student's e-mail address or name, users can set up student log ins via student ID or another code).
b. In cases where organization's use our on-line systems and require transfer or import of large sets of student data into our system, we can aid in the import process to ensure that no personally identifiable information is transferred. Further, in certain situations, WED may assist in the development and documentation of a data privacy and security plan.
LINKS TO THIRD-PARTY WEBSITES: Links to external websites may be provided as research and learning tools. These sites are maintained by their individual hosts; and WED will notify users if they are to leave its site and application to navigate to an outside site. WED has no responsibility for the content of these sites and does not endorse ideas which may be presented there or any products or services which may be advertised there. Visitors should consult the other sites' privacy policies as we have no control over information that is submitted to, or collected by, these third parties.
ADVERTISEMENTS: WED does not post advertising on its on-line systems.
COLLECTION AND USE OF INFORMATION: WED recognizes the privacy concerns of users and visitors to our web-based systems and the importance of protecting the privacy of personally identifiable information. As a general policy:
a. No personally identifiable information, such as a visitor's name, address, email address, credit card number, or telephone number, is collected on our website unless the visitor chooses to provide that information to us.
b. We do not sell or share email lists.
c. Most of our systems use session variables to ensure smooth operation and assist our systems in maintaining your status and location on the site while you are logged into on our system, therefore they do not require the use of "cookies". A few of our on-line systems may place a 1st party "cookie" on a user's computer, but only for the purpose of maintaining the state of your visit.
d. For each visitor and user on our systems, our server automatically recognizes the domain, service provider, operating system, IP address, and Internet browser. The server also records the usage of pages (hits). This tracking system focuses on overall website activity; it does not track information about individual visitors. We use this data, in aggregate, for our research reports and performance surveys to improve the content of our systems.
e. Safeguards are in place to prevent unauthorized attempts to upload or change website information or otherwise access our website server.
